Thank you for writing this. You certainly have your finger on my angry pulse about this very place and time. After starting to read your post to myself, I asked my husband if I could read it aloud. (I don't think anyone who wasn't there can really REALLY get it, or the subtle and not-so-subtle ramifications of it all, yes, even thirty years out.) Got choked up and had to stop to find a breath at one point as the visual brought an immediate sense of the place (I think it was the two built-in bench desks with the window overlooking the sporting field, only difference was that in my felt sense my window overlooked the empty grass between the girls' hall and and the boys.') Oh Colin, I'm sorry this ever happened. I can't imagine, added onto all the rest of everything going on, a six-week quarantine. I'm sorry I can't change things and get you out of that room, but maybe you'll accept me on a makeshift ladder holding up a note to the window that says Hi! I may not be able to see you but I see you. And maybe this here is me going back for us-then to, at the very least, keep you company from the future.
