Truckers, Marxists, and Marxist-Truckers
The truckers’ convoy isn’t a convoy or a movement or a protest, not exactly. What it looks like to me is a good old-fashioned strike.
Labour.
Uniting, internationally?
I think I read something something about that someplace or other.
Obviously, not Marx though.
Because the Left exists as the political arm of Marxism. And the left in this country, and elsewhere in the English-speaking world, hates the strikers. I mean agitators. Racists. Convoyists. Not strikers, though. Because a Marxist would rather die than come out publicly against a mass labour movement, an uprising of the working people, can I get a “Solidarity Forever!’ right now?
Anyone who thinks Jagmeet Singh’s NDP is a party of or for the workers is…probably receiving a generous public salary—just the right amount to look away, nothing to see here. The largest labour strike since Winnipeg 1919 and the NDP just can’t get there because Confederate Flag.
It may have been Marx who said Workers of the world unite! but it really took a Stalin to fuck the whole thing up so royally, so Gulagly, that the word Communism took on a stain that just won’t scrub.
The way I see this strike, it’s the working truckers who are the Marxists in the traditional (pre-2015) sense. They are refusing to provide the collective value of their labour until, at least, the President of the Corporation (which is Canada) at least has the common decency to meet with their leaders. Fuck man, even Rockefeller would have met with the truckers by now.
The Stalinists are what the Left in this country seems intent on becoming. Quite an aspiration. Solidarity. Or else.
They Drive by Night (1940) based on the novel by the same name by Greek-American A.I. (Buzz) Bezzerides. Sympathizing with the plight of truck drivers—low-level, hard-working employees in a dangerous industry, part of a vicious global capitalist system in which they’re getting price-squeezed on both sides—used to be what Hollywood and all the best progressives in society used to do. Now, though, you’d actually have to think for yourself to get to that conclusion. And, unfortunately, you’re not allowed to do that on the Left anymore either.
